About MIS 2024
MIS 2024 is for all manufacturers at any stage and at any size.
Invest Barrie is pleased to host the '2024 Manufacturing Innovation Summit: Behind the Factory Doors', a dynamic, curated event celebrating manufacturing across the City of Barrie and greater region.
Recent years have highlighted the need for innovation in all sectors, and manufacturing is no exception. Process improvements, supply chain management enhancements, and investments in information technology and automation have all played critical roles in advancing the manufacturing sector. The Manufacturing Innovation Summit is designed for the local manufacturing community to learn, connect and get inspired for what’s next in the sector.
This year’s Manufacturing Innovation Summit will take attendees ‘Behind the Factory Doors’, with tours and breakout sessions in three of Barrie’s top manufacturing facilities. These sessions will showcase the local talent and allow participants to hear firsthand case studies, industry insights and what is being produced right here in our own backyard.
The Manufacturing Innovation Summit is in partnership with the Regional Manufacturing Partnership - Simcoe County, Lakehead University, Georgian College, City of Orillia and the City of Barrie.
MIS 2024 Expert Talk with Enviro-Stewards
Enviro-Stewards is reframing the conversation about sustainability and business.
Enviro-Stewards has spent the past 25 years helping to reduce carbon emissions, build circular economies, prevent food loss and waste and reduce utility costs. Enviro-Stewards is a Best for the World classified B Corporation, recipient of Global Compact Canada’s SDG Goal award, and multiple Clean 50 awards for their work helping companies like Maple Leaf Foods become the world's first major food manufacturer to achieve carbon neutral.
Taking a holistic approach, their team conducts a full-spectrum assessment and implementation, focused on prevention, resource conservation, and improving your bottom line. Rather than performing a traditional audit, with a specific focus on solving your end-state dilemma, they examine the root cause in order to develop innovative and sustainable solutions. These solutions have helped businesses alleviate ongoing resource and financial concerns by mitigating the source of their problems — not just focusing on the symptoms.
Many organizations have set ambitious targets to reach net-zero. They just don’t know how they are going to get there. The perception is that it will cost a lot of money to reduce emissions. We regularly find, however, that there are great opportunities at facilities to implement low-hanging fruit and deep retrofits that actually REDUCE costs. Through our data-driven approach, we find opportunities that cultivate resilient business, reduce environmental impact, and improve lives in extraordinary ways.
Through the presentation, participants will discover the economic, environmental, and social cases for decarbonization. They will learn the basic steps in this journey, from establishing baselines, identifying and implementing opportunities, to tracking results. The presentation will use real-world case studies to show how leading companies are already putting this into practice.

Culture Meets Manufacturing with Artist Neil Smith
The beginning of manufacturing is inexorably tied to the creative process. Engineering, design and process builds upon the sketch of an innovator and lifts it to the height of its capability. Local artist Neil Smith created “Potential Scalability” during a live drawing on day 1 of the 2023 Manufacturing Innovation Summit to celebrate this potential by bringing the built industry back to its creative source; a simple drawing asking what it can become.
Thank you to our sponsors.
