Summer Company Spotlight: Marchmont Window Cleaning

Posted

The Summer Company program is funded by the Government of Ontario and delivered by the Small Business Centre of Barrie, Simcoe County and Orillia. The program is designed to empower young entrepreneurs aged 15 to 29 by providing them with the resources and support they need to start and run their own summer businesses. Participants receive up to $3,000 in financial assistance, mentorship from experienced business professionals, and access to valuable training and networking opportunities.

Meet Hudson Lightfoot and Marchmont Window Cleaning

Marchmont Window Cleaning, created by Hudson Lightfoot, is a residential window cleaning service that offers interior/exterior window cleaning and screen cleaning for homeowners in Simcoe County. The service provides a convenient, reliable way to keep homes looking clean without the need for ladders or specialized equipment. With a focus on flexible scheduling and reasonable pricing, the business offers a community-focused alternative to larger cleaning companies.

At the beginning of the Summer Company program, Hudson shared thoughts on business goals, success, and entrepreneurship. These answers provide a glimpse into where Hudson and his business are today, and by the end of the summer, revisiting them will demonstrate the growth and progress that has been achieved throughout the program.

Why did you start this business?

“I started this business because I wanted to try building something of my own and have the freedom to set my own schedule. Even though running a business often means working more hours than a regular job, I enjoy the independence and the challenge that comes with being my own boss.”

What are your top three goals for your business this summer?
  1. Hire and manage four employees
  2. Improve marketing efforts
  3. Grow and scale the business
What does success look like for you at the end of the Summer Company program?

"Success looks like gaining knowledge on how to hire employees and eventually having a team in place so that I can focus on sales, operations, and growing the business."

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone looking to start their own business?

“I would say just start and go for it.”
