IEDC's Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world's best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year's most influential leaders. These awards honour organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.

The goal of the survey is to collect business and employer data and create a comprehensive list of the city’s workplaces that are operating in employment and commercial areas. The benefits to the city’s workplaces participating in the survey include strengthening the local economy, having a free business listing on the survey website, and gaining access to information on local suppliers.
