I-Spy a New Home Inspector for Simcoe County!

What is your favourite part about being an entrepreneur?

My favourite part of being an entrepreneur is the flexibility I can build into my schedule.

What inspired you to start a business?

Health reasons forced a re-evaluation of my priorities and goals. Having a heart attack and not being able to perform my duties as a builder has forced me to reinvent myself. Pivot or perish!

Having to provide for my family is a driving force for me to succeed. Having my children look up to me and building an inspection firm brand that I can pass on to my children is also a great ambition and motivation for me.

What services/ products do you offer?

We offer home inspection services for both new and older homes sold in Ontario, including delivering a comprehensive report that everyone can understand. Some common types of home inspections are; a Pre-Purchase Home Inspection, a Pre-Listing Home Inspection, a New Construction Inspection, a Maintenance Inspection, a Pre-Drywall Inspection, and an 11th Month Warranty Inspection. Each type of home inspection serves a specific purpose and can help homeowners, buyers, sellers, or investors make informed decisions about their properties.

Who do you look up to for inspiration when it comes to either being an entrepreneur or your business?

My Father in-law came to Canada with not very much and has created a successful business that has provided for his family.

How did you come up with your business name?

I came up with the acronym – SPI – first, while I was playing “I spy with my little eye” with my kids.

What is unique about your business?

Having 30 years of experience in home renovations and construction lends so much insight to the field of home inspection. We also offer thermal imaging for FREE!

What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through your entrepreneurial journey?

That I am not just a one trick pony, and that an old dog can learn new tricks.

What’s the best piece of advice you would give to another entrepreneur?

Avoid tunnel vision and be open to new ideas. If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan – not the goal.
