Tourism is an important economic driver in Barrie. In 2023, this key sector brought over 7.7 million visitors who contributed a total of over $63 million to our local economy1. As a four-season destination, Barrie capitalizes on tourism to generate spending at local business and turn the visitor of today into the employee or investor of tomorrow.

Tourism also has the power to establish peace and understanding among cultures and nations. By embracing cultural exchange as well as respectful and inquisitive dialogue, tourism can become an agent for peace. World Tourism Day takes place September 27, 2024 and the theme this year is Tourism and Peace. Find out more by checking out the International Handbook on Tourism and Peace.
